This teardrop shape opal pendant has been made in 9ct gold and is set with our own unique, vibrant cultured opal with flashes of light blue, turquoise and pink colours that are hard to capture with the camera. As you turn it in the light you will be amazed by its fire and all the vivid colours! The teardrop cabochon opal measures 10mm x 8mm and the simple classical mount includes a good quality and substantial 9ct gold chain measuring 18 inches in length

More about Cultured Opals The physical and optical properties of our unique cultured opals are almost identical to those of natural opal. The main difference is that our opals have been impregnated with an extremely hard polymer which permanently binds the opal silica spheres together. The resulting opal is 80-90% pure opal silica, just like a natural opal and with a chemical composition that's almost the same. Our opals exhibit a play of colour and vibrancy only seen in the most prized of precious opals. These vivid flashes of colour are not easily found in naturally occurring opals as it is so rare and consequently usually very expensive. Our own cultured opals are unique and have a vibrant play of colour that is almost indistinguishable from natural opal, however they are far more affordable and look fabulous.

The treatment of our cultured opals results in the advantage of generally being stronger and more stable than natural opals, making it less vulnerable to cracking or drying. Unlike others, our unique cultured opal is a form of solid opal and should not be confused with 'doublets', 'triplets', 'opalite', 'reconstituted' opal or other cheap imitations.
